The Seven Hebrew Feasts That God Says Are His (Lev. 23:2).

The passover lamb.  When the Hebrews were in bondage in Egypt, a series of 10 plagues came upon the Egyptians because the Pharaoh resisted God.  Prior to the final plague, which was the death of the firstborn in all of the land, God instructed the Hebrews to sacrifice a lamb and place it's blood on the door posts and lintel of each home, and that all the firstborn were to remain in the home. Then death would pass over each home where the blood of the lamb was applied to the door.  That's why it is called "pass over."  As if the finger of God pointed to Christ - John the Baptist introduced Jesus Christ to the world in terms that foreshadowed His death - "And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he (John the baptist) saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

Lev 23:2  Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.

The ‘feasts’ in the above scripture comes from the Hebrew word, “moed” and literally means “appointments”.  Therefore, these are God’s “appointments.”  The way these feasts are kept by Jews significantly point to God’s Redeemer…Jesus Christ.

The Spring Feasts Fulfilled by Jesus Christ

1.    Passover (Pesach) – Lev. 23:5
2.    Unleavened Bread – Lev. 23:6
3.    First Fruits – Lev. 23:12
4.    Pentecost (Shavuot) – Lev. 23:15; Deut. 16:9

The Fall Feasts  To be fulfilled by Jesus Christ

5.    Trumpets (Rosh HaShanah) Lev. 23:23-25
6.    Atonement (Yom Kippur) Lev. 23:26-32
7.    Tabernacles (Sukkot) Lev. 23:33-43

With the full knowledge of his impending crucifixion, Jesus was thinking of others rather than himself when he referred to the spring feasts as opposed to the fall feasts with regard to the great tribulation. He predicted what would come at the end of the age, when the wrath of God would be poured out on the earth.  “For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.  Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.  For if they do these (crucify the Son of God) things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?” (Luke 23:30)  Ref: – “Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us…     And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; and said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?- Rev. 6.

JESUS personally fulfilled the first four (spring) ‘appointments’ listed in Leviticus 23, it is logical to expect that JESUS will personally fulfill the three final appointments as well, and that is exactly what the bible says.  “This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. “

The next appointment on God’s calendar is Trumpets."

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” 1 Thess. 4:16, 17.
